Y. Fransheska
When someone thinks of intestines, normally one would quickly jump to horror and disgust. Y. Fransheska wants to change how we view such gross details into one of accepting its importance. In the current series “No Guts No Glory”, her perception of the intestines evokes a playful and comforting energy, one opposing the initial gross thoughts that come to mind. Emphasizing the comfort in knowing we are trying to navigate life while dealing with excitement, and fear, trusting our intuition, and self-preservation. She tries to bring the inside to the outside as a reminder of how we share the same human composition. When you’re faced with the opportunity to spill your guts, first comes embarrassment, then comes the triumph from overcoming your adversaries. “No Guts No Glory” comes from Y. Fransheska’s perception of seeing the human body as a walking work of art even when the fear is overwhelming.
Although living in New York City, growing up in New Jersey is where she calls home. Self-taught artist Y Fransheska has always been heavily involved with the arts her entire life. As she learned more about the art world, she soon began to discover a bigger love of visual arts and the different mediums that she incorporates together. With her mixed background, Puerto Rican, Mexican, and Black, she tries to create art that can be felt universally. Feeling once before pigeoned hole by only a fragment of her identity, her humanist ideas are what inspire her to continue to create, trying to connect everyone outside of class barriers and identity politics. Hoping one day people can look past the superficial features and try to create bonds that tie us closer together.
No Guts No Glory.
